BERLI Village Will Be Their Host Dur- - ing Two Weeks' Vacation ASK RESIDENTS' SUPPORT Meriden Mdn Involved In Accident With Huge Truck—Worthington Fire District Annual Mecting Is Called—Epidemic of Boils A quota of children from sunbaked streets of New York cily will enjoy a two weeks' vacation in East Berlin this year, according lo an announcement made today by the commitfee in charge. The date for the arrival of the children has been fixed, this being some time during the last week in July. They will re- main until August is well under way. The committee has expressed it- aelf as being hopeful that many resi- dents will respond to this worthy cause. East Berlin is an ideal place for city children on a vacation and it is hoped that many residents will acts as hosts or hostesses to them for a period of two weeks. The chil- dren will enjoy the country air swims and other good times which they seldom experience. One child will be lodged at each home which is opened. Smashup On Turnpike An accident which nearly proved fatal, occurred yestserday in front of the home of H. W. Goodrich on the turnpike, when an automobile driven by Harty B. Ekmark of 687 Broadstreet, Meriden, and a large {ruck owned by the Fisk Rubber Co. F. Lewjs of and driven by Lester 25 Morgan street, Springfield, werc olved in a crash. h"l'l:n truck was bound south and the pleasure car was on its way north. According to witnesses Ek- mark was driving at a high rate of speed. It is not khown whether or not he heeame confused and lost control of the car or whether he was unable to make a slight curve in the road. It was regained her health and is able to be about once more. Teams To Collect Rubbish The town teams will collect rub- bish and cans in Berlin on July 1 and 2, it was announced today. The teams will proceed through the town and will gather up whatever waste residents may wish to place at the side of the road for easy collection. No ashes or garbage will be collected at this time. Those desiring to have rubbish and cans carted away have been warned that they must leave this material along the roadside, as no trips will be made into cellars. The driver of the car was still at liberty at a late hour last night and a statewide search was be- ing made for him. Brennan suffer- ed a fractured skull and internal in- juries. It was reported to the police that Brennan was standing waiting for a New Haven bound car when he was struck by the automobile going at a high rate of speed and was hurled some distance hefore striking the ground.
