NSPIRATION TLK ATC,0F C.DINNER F. J. Raymond Tells How to Improve Life I “To make a success in any job, vork as though every day were the Arst day on the job, To get suc- cessful cooperation out of your em- ployes, don‘t forgét to say ‘good morning’ every orning,'wsalll Frank Jewel Raymond, business achieve- ment expert, in an address fo mém- Lers of the Chamber of Commerce at the Burritt hotel last night, Mr, Raymond wspoke ‘on *‘The Btairway to Achievemen “The art of talking fs great, the art of listen- ing Is greater, but the art of saying something is greatest,” he said, Ex- plaining further he pointed out that the first seven years mark the first step on the stairway to achievement, Here one meets the three M's— mother, manners and morals, which guide the child over the first step. The next step, he said, was that of the three H's—head, heart and hand, e sald this included the use of the hands, the sentiment in the heart and the head to play the game square. The third step he said might occur at the age of 11 or 12 or ft might not come until high school or college days. This was the step of the three T.'s—lahor, letters and leisure, “We start our labor, earn our letters or education and win our Jeisure.” The next step he characterized as the three I's—experience, expres- sion and oxpansion. “You are what you are as the result of your ex- perience through expression to ex- pansion.” A later step in life was explained as the three R’s—reflection, reced- ence and release. He fllustrated this by the man who says, “I've been a member of this lodge and on this committee for so long, now I'm through."” We begin to recede until fnally we are released hy our asso- clates,” ha said. The last step he said was that of profit. “Perception means good wdgment by which we galn power and through our personal power, profit,” He sald there were three groups of workers, to be found among factory omployes, ‘school teachers, business- men, ministers and people In 4ll walks of life, These groups includ- ed the “What's the use? It can't be done crowd.”” This group he characterized as the indifferent crowd, thé crowd which says “Be- lieve'me I've been here 156 years and I know it can't be done. “Home of us like to feel that wu are 100 per cent Amerlcans, A lot of people who claim to come from good famllies seem to be a long way from home. My ancestors landed in Philadelphia with Billy Penn in the sixteen hundreds for the same rea~ son your ancestors came over and for the same reason the last lmlnl-; to get | {1t was essential grant landed at Ellis Island, away from where they were, “If you give a Swede poison, will dle. 8o will an Ttalian, will you or I or anybody clse. We are all human. No particular group has any monopoly of what America has to give, “We hear men say, ‘I don't like him, he's a Catholle,’ or ‘I can't stand him, he's a Lutheran he Ho or a Baptist Suppose we all went into a handsome church building to worship God. You go to the east side and look out of the Methodist window. Some one else goes to the west side and looks out of a Catholic window. If I want to climb the elevator shaft and stand | on top of an old step ladder to look 6ut of a Quaker window it's no- body's damn business, and besides the same sun shines on ihe whole building. “The other fellow worships God whether he goes to your church or not. It makes no difference wheth- er he is sprinkled or doused, just as long as he believes he's getting | what he's getting when he gets it. “Success consists in doing right the little things. Go to your work each day as if it were {he first day and you were compelled to make good.” The three classes of workers he said include those who say “T'll be darned it I'll do it, they can get somebody else.” This is the class of workers he explained who do {less than they are told. Others do just what they are told and no the three P's—perception, power and CORNS Llft Off No Pain! | Doesn't hurt eme bit! little “Freezone” on an aching corn, | Drop 2| instantly.
