Plve men and a woman were select- ed. The 16-year-old matricide had hoped for a jury of elderly men and the result yesterday was to her lik- ing. The juvenile court, which had first jurisdiction over Miss Ellingson, passed the case on to the superior court, The maximum sentence Miss Ellingson faces for her acts is life imprisonment. The young girl has legal and moral protection agalnst hanging. A California law forbids hanging persons under 18 . years, Calitornia citizens have always op- posed the hanging of women of any age. When the jury is completed, de- fense counsel will advance the plea that Mias Ellingson is suffering from a mental condition bordering on in- sanity, The girl has oonfessed the killing. Probing Life of Dead Man In New Poison Mystery Hot Springs, 8. D.,, March 24.— An investigation into the life of Rev. Robert E. Tarleton, to determine a motive for the death of the clergy- |man, was started by authorities to- day after surveying testimony which discounted any theory of suicide. Chemists at the state university found poison in the stomach of the pastor after an autopsy failed to re- veal a trace of heart disease from which it was at first belleved he died.
