The committee, ap- pointed by the Southington Business Men's assoclation and the Southing- ton Exchange club, conducted a thorough investigation of this mat- ter and reported back to these so- cleties, which in turn hrought it be- tore last night's meeting. Althodgh the report was accepted | the meeting reserved for itself the | right to decide upon the details of | any new form of government. The | committee, which was composed of many of the leading men in this town, proposed that a city charter | be taken out, the town being retain- | ed to keep representation in the state legislature. The city would have a mayor, common council, and other officers elected for two-year terms. Under the proposcd plan, the pres- | ent constabulary would give way to a police force, this being one of the big arguments used in furthering the project. Local business men have complained recently that _the | police protection has t been suffi- | clent, and it is thought that an or-| anized police force would improve | this condition. | The irregularity of governmental | benefits and duties i3 also responsi ble for the change.
