WEEHAWKEN JUROR SAID T0 BE FIXED| McLeod Says Another Member Had Determined on Acquittal ——— Jersey City, N, J., Jan, 28,~Pros- ecutor John Milton will gonfer today with County Judge Charles Egan to determine what action will be taken W a result of the charges made by Everett H, McLeod, a member of the Jury which yesterday disagreed on a verdict in the trial of 12 men in. dicted In the Weehawken rum con- spiracy case, he announced today. McLeod last night reported to Spe- clal Prosecutor Vickers that one member of the jury had entered the Jjury box with an expressed determi- nation to acquit regardless of th evidence, *S8amuel Wilson, assistant superin- tendent of the New Jersey Anti- Saloon league, said today that “it {s a joke to hotd a new trial here,” in commenting on Prosecutor Vickers Intention, Aloysius McMahon, assistant pros- ecutor of Hudson county, sald yes- terday that he belleved the charges of MacLeod would be presented to the grand jury. Among them will be MacLeod's assertion that a man associated with the defense had sig- nalled answers to one of the de- fense's chief witnesses. The prose- cuting official stated that the sig- najler might be indlcted for sub- ornation of perjury. MacLeod, who 1s a Jersey City architect, last night visited Colonel George T. Vickers, special praisecutor of the alleged prohibition law con- spirators, and related his suspiclons of several of his fellow jurors, Even before he had called upon Colonel Vickers, the latter had commented: “I was sure something was wrong in that jury box.” Tt was sald that MacLeod told Colonel Vickers that the juror who started In the case with a determina- | tion to acquit, was so deaf that he could not hear much of the testi- mony. On the very first day of the trial, he s alleged to have remarked that he “would not vote to convict the ‘cops’ no matter what evidence was presented.” Although the prosecutor's office | course to be followed in regard to the charges made against United trlal by two government witnesses, it was sald that their testimony would be presented to the gmnd jury next week, “White Lies” Justified That there are occaslons when a “white le” is justified, Santa Clans, fairy tales and even pract’cal jokes cannot be classified had not yet decided upon a Hefinite | States Senator Edwards during the | | i, — e On Account of the Eclipse this Store will open Saturday Morn- ing at 10 o’clock ] EXTRA SPECIAL OFFERINGS FROM THE Drug Dept.
