Hague, were held up and robbed of a small fortune in jewels in the fashionable modiste's apartment Monday night, detectives investigating the case hinted that the solution of the mys- tery was at hand, Following a conference between Inspector John D. Coughlin and Miss Irene Flaherty, secretary to Miss Bobe, the inspector prophesied an arrest would be made soon that would end the search for the rob- bers.. He would not say whether Miss Flaherty had furnished him with a list of the guests af Miss Bobe's birthday party Saturday night. It was at this party, which was sald to have been attended by niany of Broadway's celebrities, that police believe bandits secured fnfor- mation ehabling them to plan the {holdup. They have expr!‘ssf‘d the belief {that one or more of them gained ac- cess to the party disgulsed as a guest while the celebration was at its height. From another source it was learn- ed that the man under suspicion is already belng sought in connection {with the recent theft of $9,000 worth of jewels from Mrs. Howard Johnson, wife of a playwright. This man was said to be a member of the notorious Gondorf gang. At the same time it was Jearned that police officlals attach little im- portance to the two arrests already made in the case. The police place no credence in the suggestion, made by the district attorney's office, that Montague Pike, arrested Wednesday An fincrease elightly larger than normal is shown in final figures on attendance in New Britain schools. These figures, show that the attend- ance has passed the 11,000 mark, 11,301 children, or an increase of 749 over last year's total of 10,552, are registered, The 1923 increase was 503, so that this year's jump is considerably larger than.last year's, One notable ‘feature of the figure is the decrease In attendance at the Senior high school. The only other decrease is #t the Camp school, which is accounted for by the open- ing of the nearby Walnut Hill school.
