Warns Drivers More than 600 motor vehicle oper- ators were called up “on the carpet” in the state motor vehicle department for infractions of the motor 'vehicle law during the first slx months of this year. All but sixty-eight of them were given hearings to offer reasons why licenses which had been revoked shuold be returned to them. The others were in the nature of confer- ences at which the department called drivers' attentlon to the fact that their records, as kept on file in the department, were unfavorable, and, in some cases, that further complaints slons, It is a fact that the department re- complaints of reckless driving on the highways from private citizens as from police authori- ties. Hundreds of drivers who feel that they have been able to speed without molestation by the police are the subjects of complaints pouring in- to the department by mail every week. The mere fact that complaint has been registered against an oper- ator is not sufficient to cause a black mark on his record, as the depart- ment satisfies itself by careful inves- tigation whether the complaints are justified.
