D, Ripple of 1112 Stan- ley street was coming out of the gas- oline station driveway and had reach ed the west side of the road as he ap- proached the scens, He sald that the only thing he cbuld do was to go to the left and in so dolng he skidded and hia car struck a telephone pole, FIRE STATION SITE IN NORTH ENDIS ASSURED City Hall Commission Takes Step To- ward Transfer of Shipman School Property. s The City Hall commission met_y terday afternoon and voted to price of $8,000 on.a strip of land run- ning 320 feet on the west side of Tal- cott street, and 132" feet deep. The lot js city property which, under a re- cent charter amendment is placed under the supervision of the city hall commission. y The commission also voted to de- crease the rental of a comfort station concession from $50 to $40 because the concessionaire complained the business did not warrant the higher rental. It was decided to contirue a contract for heating the Lyceum the- ater at $1,300 for the winter season. The question of increasing, insurance | on city hall was discussed but it was declded to allow the present $180,000 insurance to stand. Use of the Shipman school site was given the fire commission and when an appropriation is made to build a fire station on this plot, title will be transferred. After a dliscussion on the high cost of heating the comfort station it was voted to make no change in the heating system at this time, it being explained that the heaters will be used only part of eac® day in the future, DECLARED DESERTERS Three New Britain National Guards- men Must Pay Heavy Fine If Ap- prehended by Military Authorities. Three New Britaln military men who have absented themselves from drill and whom their superior officers in_ the Connecticut National Guard have been unable to locate, have been ordered dropped was deserters by Adjutant General George M. Florence Rutkowski Case A Heard in Supreme Court Appeals of the Connecticut Light & Power Co. from the finding of the superior court for Florence Rutkow- ski to recover damages of $7,600 for injuries sustained when she came in contact with a “live” wire on Clinton street, I#et year, and for her father to recover damages of $610, consist- ing of doctors' bills, were heard yes- terday afternoon in the state supreme court of errors, Judge Kellogg pre- siding. The appellant claims the damages allowed are excessive. The girl, who is five years of age, has sus- tained permanent injury to her hand, Burritt Grange to Meet In New Hall Saturday Burritt Grange, No. 39, P. of H. will hold & regular meeting Saturday in Jr. O.
