SLAIN FOR BREAKING SECRET SOCIETY OATH Crescent Cut of the Calabrians' Death Mark Found On White Plains Victim. White Plains, N. Y., | Coroner Edward F. Fitzgerald ster- day afternoon held Mike a Joe Benedetto of White Plains and Tony Martilitti of Port Chester to await the action of the grand jury on the mur- otherwise known as Paolo Santa, who was found stab- bed to death on the Mount Calvary Cemetery road on Sunday morning. Sheriff George J. Werner announced that through the efforts of Detective Frank Cherico it had been established that Litti was the victim of a secret Calabrian society. He was killed for some crime he committed in Italy, and it is thought revenge was ordered upon him in this country. It was only last June that the murdered man re- turned to this country. It is said that March | he broke an oath of the secret society. Over his right eye was a deep crescent shaped cut, the mark of the Calabrian society. The pocketbook and dress suit case owned by the dead man were found in the home of Joe Benedetto. It is believed two of the slayers held Litti while the third man wield- ed a double-edged knife used only by Calabrian bandits. WANT SCHOOL TEACHERS.
