Seaman Joseph O’Keefe Doing Patrol Duty in New York Harbor. Seaman Joseph O’Keefe of the U. S. Destroyer Dickinson is at the home of his motaer, 115 Clark street, on a 10 day furlough. Seaman O’Keefe en- tisted a year and a half ago, and was assigned to the Dickinson on patrol duty in and around New York harbor, The fleet of destroyers to which his ship is attached has been detailed as an escorty to all the great personages who are arrtving in this country from Earope. Their duty is to go to sea nad meet the ships bearing the foreign d.plomats and convoy them to the harbor of New York. About 75 teachers and officers the various Sunday schools in the city met at the monthly conference at the First Baptist church last evening and voted to open a community teachers' training course in this ecity. Final plans, the selection of the commit- tee and other details were left in the hands of the executive commit- tee of the teachers’ council. Oscar A. Phelps, president of the state organ- ization and Wallace J. Wwodin, sec- retary, were present and spoke. The coming state Sunday school convention the first three days of November was discussed and the pro- gram as published recently in The Herald submitted to those present. The convention will be held in the Center Congregational church. FIGHT ON TAXES RESUMED. Battle Against Proposed Continuous Session Is Promised. ‘Washington, Oct. 25.—The senate returned today to its bitter fight over the tax revision bill with republican leaders planning to force continuous sesaions beginning tomorrow until the measure is passed and the democrats generally opposed to what they re- gard as an unprecedented procedure, If the proposed resolution calling for continuous sessions is presented tomorrow as promised by Senator Penrose, of Pennsylvania in charge ot the tax measure, a determined fight against it is expected from the minor- ity side.
