PROSECUTOR BEGINS NEW “BOOZE” DRIVE Greenberg Will Bring Reputation Charges Against Places Where Evid- ence is Destroyed During Raids Proprietors and employes in stores where the police have been frustrated in their’ efforts to secure evidence during liquor raids by the throwing of glasses and pitchers into sinks and elsewhere, will no longer.be zxle to cover up their illicit dealings in this manner. Prosecutor Albert A. Greenberg has announced a policy of bringing in any- one whom the police report as having thrown away the.contents of any con- tainer under suspicious conditions dur- ing the course of a raid. A charge of maintaining a place having a reputa: tion for liquor trafficking will be brought, the prosecutor explains. In thepast the police have met with difficulty due to the presence of look- outs, it being possible for the bartender to dispose of the small quantity of liq- uor kept on hand before the raiders reached the back bar. Since the police became active in this direction, only small quantities have been kept in the stores, the seller having easy access to larger quantities nearby. With the easy disposition of this small amount, it was very difficult to secure evidence, hence the decision to enforce the reputation statute - Baldwin Locomotive Co.
