Big Tire and Rubber Shop To Be Built in West Haven - v Land Secured Near Railroad Tracks and Construction to Be- Right Away on Modern Fac- v Building. Plans for the expenditure of ap- proximately $650,000 in West Ha- ven by the Kelley Tire and Rub- ber company have been com- pleted and a transaction was com- pleted yesterday whereby the com- pany secured five acres of land as a site for an up-to-date plant. The building will be situated on West Elm street and will adjoin the main line of the New Haven rail- road. An electrically equipped spur track will soon be run in. and was bought through Hall and Peck, title search- ers, and the purchase price is not divulged. The factory building, which will be 300 feet by 100, will have 75,000 or more feet of floor space. The equipment used will be the last word in factory appliances and will cost about a quarter of a million. There will be a cooling plant for water with a capacity of 28,000 daily, the use of coal may be dispensed with as fuel oil may be used to supply heat and power. The factory and separate power plant will cost another $250,000. It is expected that from 400 to 500 people will be employed. A sep- arate two-story office building and garage will be put up in another part of the lot. Building opera- tions will be commenced by West- cott and Mapes immediately and the plant should be in service by summer. At the start 500 cord tires and 1,000 tubes will be turned out daily. This will be increased to 1,000 tires and 2,600 tubes later. Edward J. Kelley of New Haven is the president of the company. He was formerly a prominent rail- road official. Charles H. Bortell, Jr., is vice-president and treasurer. He is responsible for the success of one of the most prominent t companies and was sales m of the M. M. Green Co York and the National M 3 Major Willlam F. Alcorn, member of the Connecticut bar for 25 years, is secretary and general counsel. The directors are J. K. Smith of Waterbury, C. C. Per- kins of New London and Julius Lederer of this city. The company, which is being financed entirely in Connecticut, is capitalized at $1,000,000.
