The third ward councilman merely |’ grins and remarks that for the pres- ent “I'm like Wilson at Hartford, I'm non committal.” Such was the state- ment he made this morning when asked if there was any foundation to the reports concerning his plans, MUST CARRY NIGHT LIGHTS New Statc Law Provides Fine of $10 for Violation of Highway Law— Other New Judiciary Enactments. A law just enacted by the legisla- ture which is of interest in New Brit- ain, as it is everywhere else through. out the state. is the one which pro. vides a penalty of a $10 fine for driv- ing any vehicle on the road at night without a light. Two years ago a bill passed the legislature forbidding the driving of vehicles on the roads ‘at night without lights. This law. proved to, be a joke as it did not provide any penalty for violations. Hence it was | impossible to enforce it. The law as it now stands makes 1t an offense, punishable by a fine of $10, to drive anything but a load of hay on the highways at night without a lght. The benefit of ‘this law is recognized by everybody. Still another law of importance just passed is the one which places " an automobile thief on a par with a horse thief. Hereafter the stealing of an automobile will be a far more serious offense than it has been in the past and wiil be punishable by a state prison sentence.
