Anderson, pastor of the People’s Church of Christ, clearly | demonstrated at the annual meeting of the church last night that his op- | are in a small minority for | was re-elected as pastor of the | church by a vote of 96 to 30. The | dissatisfied faction of the church membership which had organized a | systemized campaign to defeat him was completely thwarted in its plans and his friends carried him to victory by an overwhelming majority. The church was packed to the doors when the annual meeting was called to order and the information that a movement was on foot to oust Pastor Anderson added interest to the proceedings. When the business of voting for the pastor of the coming year was announced Henry C. Capen arose and made a strong plea in be- half of Pastor Anderson, extolling his many admirable qualities both a man and as a teacher of the Gospel. Gilbert Linton, who has been termed 4 X the leader of the opposition and who LAMSON - assisted in circulating a petition to ~et the names of those who wished to ask for Rev. A rising ote was then called for and the Pas- tor’'s popularity was shown when a zreat majority stood up in his favor Attacks Pastor’s Policy | The insurgents were not so easily downed and they at once took excep- | tion to the rising vote method of elec- | tion, intimating that some of the younger members might have been afraid to stand up and vote the way they really wanted. As the debate again started, one young man arose and made the public statement that he was tired of attending this church { and being knocked from the pulpit Decause he was a member of the Y. M. C. A. He then spoke as champion of the Y. M. C. A. and its athletic branches and concluded his state- | | ments with the remark that “all you care about us in this church is to have up pay our dues.” His re- marks, which had been directed at - Anderson, received much ap- from those who were seeking the clergyman’s scalp.
