Hartford, April;, J6.—The automo. bile bill making numerous changes in the present law was adopted by the house of representatives vester- day. The committee’'s recommenda- some debate but this was brief in comparison with that of previous sessions when re- Vvigion of the automobile laws was under discussion. the members who took part in the debate praised the roads, drivers and bridges committee for its work. The only two points of attack were those which require a constable or officer attempting to make an arrest to show the badge of his effice on his outside clothing, and the increased fees for commercial vehicles. Most of the changes by the bill are in the phras- eology of the present lay or through insertion of sentences ar clauses fo meet’ conditions which have arisen and which are not covered by the law. Mr. Brooks of Torrington made the general explanation of the changes. Mr. Hough of Washington was defeated on his amendment to strike out the words which require |an officer to exhibit his badge of of- fice, Mr. Hough then tried to in- crease the fees on pleasure cars 2§ cents per horse power, and $5 per ton on commercial trucks. The bill ldoes not alter the fees on pleasure | vehicles but does increase the fees on heavy trucks. The debate was ,on this amendment but it was de- feated and the bill adopted with two {minor changes in the wording relat- |ing to the passage of an automo- {bile by a trolley car which is at a standstill, Mr. MacDonald of Putnam, chair- man of the commitee in moving adopt. ition, said the committee had given i faithful hearings on the bill, had con- sidered every proposition before It, had turned out a splendid measure and that it would be a crime to re- Ject it. Adoption was practically by { unanimous vote. President Madero while his prisoner was assassinated. Carranza How Huerta can attempt to evade responsibility for his death is incon- ceivable.” Colonel Romera left Vera Cruz a month ago, visiting the Carranza le- gations in Cuba and Canada before coming to Seattle.
