MAAS BROTHERS.' TAMPA, FLA. 3281 e B T R o tas—gn OCT. 13, 1914. ND, FLA, Vaive Of A i | “Dime In Land ther dav we noticed an newspaper sug- ntm' zh-t Vi e a dime t vvalue in land. Havivng laced it we appropriate the idea. There are hundreds of voung men and older one too, about this and other towns in Florida working for salaries. who look upon a proposition to buy land as beyond them and would probably answer that it takes all I make to live. Turn- ing away, the chances are §hat| he will call a friend, step into a cold drink stand and spend twenty cents to cool his disap- pointment in not being able to get a start among the landhold- art some ers in Florida, and with it goes the value of two dimes in land.! The idea of measuring the cost of our luxuries in land is such agood one tht we will endeav- or to illustrate the value of a dime in land. The cost of productive land in Florida varies all the way from $10 an acre to $300 an acre, ac- cording to location and kind of soil. For convenience, we will take land worth $40 an acre. An acre contains a little the rise of 43,200 square feet, a dime is one four-hundredths part of $40, therefore the dime would pay for a little the rise of 108 square feet, a square of ten feet in round numbers, enough to grow all the lettuce needed for a small family, or all the rad- ishes or all the onions. Had you thought about it? he average young man on a sa'ary will spend, say a half dol- lar a day, for cold drinks, cigars, cigarettes, the picture show and the like. That means five squares of land, a place to grow lettuce, raddishes, ‘onions, ete. In a week it means thn-ty-fiv squares of land, a nice little gar- den spot that properly handled ought to pay several hundred| per cent. on the investment. Perhaps this $40 land is locat- ed too far out for you, but here it is again; that 50 cents a day will pay for a square a day of $200 land, and in a week you have drank, smoked and chewed seven squares of just about as! good land as you can find in Florida. Yet there are many young men who think that therc is no opportunity for them to accumulate, that their salaries are too small, that they can nev- er hccnmc land holders. Get the idea in your heads of the “val- ue of a dime in land.” Exercise business judgement, practice a little economy, and it will not be many )(dh until you can stand on the corner with George Wallace, White Turner and other land holders and talk about prospects down on the farm.—Bradentown Journal, —— FISH, OYSTERS AND WOOI).
