Varn, the conductor who was killed by the explosion of an engine boiler near Holder was held at Ft Meade this morn- ing, the remains being sent down to that place on the train. A large Lakeland people, composed prin- cipally of members of the Elks and the Order of Railway Con- ductors, went down to pay their last respects to this worthy and popular young man whose un- timely end is so widely regretted. The funeral services were held at the DBaptist church, Rev. Barnes, the pastor, officiating. At the grave the Elks took charge of the exercises, and car- of a salad course, and ice cream and cake were enjoyed on the spacious veranda. It was only when twilight was gathering that the guests that all such delightful occasions must have an end. Miss Groov- er is always a charming hostess and an afternoon spent at her lovely home is always welcomed with delight and long remem- bered. Those present were Misses Ethel Rice of Georgia, who is Miss Groover’s house cuest, Mae White, Vera McRae, Mary Jackson, Laura Southard, Corine Patterson, Mhry Groover, Josephine Drane, Florence and Helen Conibear.
