A reasonable lie well told has art in it that partly condones its vice, but anything as improbable as the above shows such stupid absence of artistic invention that it is merely most nauseous slop to disgust the avid appetite for horrors. D s The death of justice Lurton makes room for another eminent Democratic lawyer on the supreme bench of the United States and the president will be fortunate in find- ing a successor who is in all respects the full equal of the deceased jurist. But there is plenty of good timber and Mr. Wilson has such a keen eye forthe measurement of men that '\'o may feel sure the distinction will be rightfully conferred. The su- preme court should be non-sectional as well as non-partisan, and the best way to Kkeep it non-sectional is to have a just proportion of Southern men in its membership. The new | Judge will of course be a Democrat and not less certainly he should come from the South, for at present only two of the judges out of nine are from this section. 0 Florida has never yet had a rep- Tesentative on the supreme bench of the United States and now that the the death of Justice Lurton leaves a vacancy in that court and a South- ern Democrat is reasonably sure to be chosen for the place, we should like to have the State pr join With the Telegram in ur the appointment of Judge Hocke now on the supreme bench of Florida, as an admirably fitted man in all re- spects to succeed to the vacant Judgeship.
