MANN PLUMBING CO. ; E PHONE 257, PINE ST. gl amAAAAALLAL L | derfully | days of modes that are generally de- i because the jackets are available for I YOU need a separate jacket for | wear with summer toilettes, on any occasion where a little extra warmth | must be provided, consider the won- chic model pictured here. | The ordinary coat or jacket which is | called into requisition merely for | warmth is apt to be commonplace and | to take away from the costume some- | thing of style. Here is one that adds distinction. It is entirely original in line and has an amount of snap and vigor which is refreshing in these scribed as “sloppy.” Already the tide has set toward styles of a different character, and by fall we are likely to be quite military looking in our bearing and our trap- pings. This jacket is a premonition. It {8 from the establishment of one of the younger Paris costumers and belongs to a suit, in fact. This suit has a striped skirt of a material dif- ferent from the jacket. Such suits have been made in cloth and in silk, and besides their charming effect they have been extraordinarily successful wear with other skirts and costumes. Light tans, modes and grays are a safe choice in color, and black is real- ly the safest of all. Deep and quiet shades of green have been used with LAK ELAND, FLA, JULY 15, 1914, good effect and will harmonize with any other of the fashionable colors. Buttons are featured on the jackets for midsummer. On silk and crepe suits flat pearl buttons in white, sewed down with black silk heavy thread make a decorative feature that is remarkably elegant. Black taffeta ackets, or others made of bengaline, have pearl buttons and the button- holes are worked in white silk thread. Silver buttons are good on black and white combinations, and covered but- tons, especially those made in the “acorn” style, are having just now a great vogue. The material of the suit, or its trimming, is used for covering the molds. The Jacket, or coat, shown here is a modifled Russian blouse. Instead of a basque it is flnished with a wide band of the material, extending about the hips. It ig long waisted and be- coming to figures somewhat stout, as well as to slender ones. Other models in these separate Jackets have the same advantages as this one. That is, they embody origi- nality in design and the new style fea~ tures in decoration which give them 8o much tone. If one looks for these characteristics the useful little sepa~ rate jacket is sure to be a success. JULIA BOTTOMLEY. Larger Hats for Midseason (i s MALL hats still get the pace in mil- linery, and all our headwear is | measured by small standards. But midsummer demands brimmed hats, and some of those of the midseason, compared with the hats to which we are dally accustomed, seem to deserve to be classed as large. They are very moderately so; the most daring ones have considerable width of brim at the left side, while the right side meas ures from four to five inches. And as they are on the order of the Gains borough, with the brim turning up | ward and away from the face at the left, one looks for the width of br that characterizes picturesque m ery. Two attractive models of this kind are shown in the picture. One of them is a hemp in a light color and the other is a black straw. The hemp hat has a wide border, on the under brim and is supported by a wide ban- deau at the left. The bandeau is trimmed with velvet ribbon and a sin gle rosebud with foliage and stem The same velvet ribbon, with small' compact bouquets, trims the upper brim, and the hat is finished with that last airy touch that belongs to the apex of summertime, a white lace veil, A very similar shape is portrayed made up in black hair braid and black maline. The hat itself is small, with the brim much wider at left than at the right side. But the overlay of black maline in wide ruffles gives the effect of additional size. No color i8 introduced into this design. The big satin rose is of black set in black rose foliage Just now black and white, all black and all white hats are in highest fa- vor. In the third figure a black shape of lustrous straw is i with a wired ruffle of lace and a fan of black moire ribbon. White satin daisies, centered with black, are applied to the body of the hat against it. They are set In black satin rose foliag T mounted fl n in size but by comparison with t majority of sime ilar shapes it may be called large.
