Bonacker, of this city, is taken from the Tampa Times and will be read with interest by the gen- tleman's friends in this city who tiust he will soon be entirely re- covered: John H. Bonacker, of the firm of Bonacker Bros., ome of Tampa's prominent citizens, who was badly irjured in an accidental manner, while attending the recent A. A. A. automobile races at Indianapolis on May 30, is reported as getting along as well as can be expected. He suf- fered a triple fracture of the right arkle, and is now in the Methodist hospital in that city, under the care of several eminent surgeons. The in- jury is to such an extent that Mr, Bonacker will be compelled to re- main in the hospital for at least six or seven weeks, before he will be able tv come home. It was reported at sprain, but letters have been received ghving the exact nature of the in-| Juries, Thrown When Foot Caught. Together with T. Ed Bryan, M: | Bonacker went to Indianapolis, 'nd .‘ te attend the auto races, Thousands filled the grand stands, as the rac- ing was said to be the greatest event in the automobile world. The acci- dent that occurred to Mr. Bonacker was the only ong to any spectator, When Bob Burman appeared in the vo-mile event there was an accident to the machine, which caused quite a good deal of excitement. It was roported that the driver was Killed. 11 order to get exact information as a result of the spill Mr. Bonacker de- Itired to talk to one of the guards. In jumping from the stand a distance of a few feet to reach the ground itis left foot caught in some unic- countably manner, and he was vio- lently thrown to the ground, sus- taining a triple fracture of the ankle. The race was the last one on the program, and the crowds were begin- ning to leave their seats. Mr. Bon- acker was assisted in every way pos- sible by Mr. Bryan and others, and after the big crowd had disappeared was taken to the Methodi=t hospital, where he is being given the best of attention. Mr. Bryan is still with Mr. Bonacker, the former having giv- en up his trip to New York and oth- er places on account of the accident. W. A. Bonacker is in daily re- ceipt of telegraphic advice from Mr. Liryan, and the message received to- day is to the effect that the injury was far more serious than at first thought. The injured foot was placed under the X-ray machine, and it was found that there was a triple frac- ture. An operation was performed Monday afternoon, after which the surgeons decided that Mr. Bonacker would ultimately have the use of the foot again, however, he will be laid up: for a long period.
