Giants, Indians Dominate AP Major League All-Star Roster Champs Place Six Players On The Team By JOE REICHLER NEW YORK (#—Befitting their stations, New York’s world cham- pion Giants and Cleveland’s Amer- ican League champion Indiaus dominated the 1954 Associated Press major league all-star team, capturing six of the 10 positions, Six of the 16 big league clubs, four in the National, were repre- sented in the AP’s ninth annual all- star squad, selected by 422 base- throughout the nation. The Nation- al League had six players to four for the American. The Giants and Indians were the only clubs with more than one Page 12 THE KEY WEST CITIZEN representative. Each had three. Musial made the team for the eighth time, missing only once since the poll was inaugurated in 1946, Mays, the brilliant Giant outfield- er who led both majors in batting with a .345 average, topped all vote etters. The Negro flash was named on 397 ballots. Musial had 340 votes to easily join Mays in the outfield. Snider had tough compe- tition from Boston’s Ted Williams before finally sneaking into the third garden spot, 195 votes to Ted’s 153. The second biggest vote-getter was Berra, who won the catching Position hands down with 389 votes, Runner-up Roy Campanella of the Dodgers drew only nine votes to seven for Cleveland’s Jim Hegan and five for Milwaukee’s Del Cran- dall. Last year Campanella had 174 votes to only five for Berra, All infield positions were decided by comfortable margins. On!y Avila, at second, had any sort of opposition, polling 259 votes to 117 for Red Schoendienst of the Cardi- nals. Kluszewski had no trouble getting the nod at first base. No Major Quake Damage Reported In San Francisco SAN FRANCISCO (#—An earth- quake which cracked walls and shook buildings but caused no major property damage jostled the San Francisco Bay area late last night, some 20 hours after a more severe shock hit Nevada and neighboring states. The University of California seis mograph at Berkeley pinpointed the quake at 11:09 p.m. centered 12 to 15 miles south of Berkeley in the San Leandro area. The seismograph recorded a magnitude of 3.8 on the Richter Scale.
