Paseo l2 =THE KEY WEST CITIZEN Thursday, October 14, 1954 NATIONAL WANTS TO HELP YOU SECURE THE PROSPERT ‘ie Y THAT IS RIGHTFULLY YOURS! If you have a dollar invested in Key West...or a job here...» we’re partners in an effort to secure the future—yours and ours!’ ” Ye}, National Airlines usually spends its advertising money to create business for the communities it serves. We led the way to the full development of Florida’s summer tourist potential with the famed ‘‘Millionaire’s Vacation on a Piggy-Bank Budget.” Key West has the climate... the tourist facilities... the natural beauty... and the national recognition. National Airlines has the finest and newest fleet of Douglas DC-7’s, DC-6’s and 6-B’s, and Convair 340’s in the world today. And National has the determination to give Key West the service and fares that will enable you to compete with vacation areas anywhere! We'd much prefer to spend our money to sell America the fine vacation facilities which you own and in which you work. But we... the citizens of Key West and National Airlines as partners in the endeavor for competitive equality ... cannot and will not agree te pay tribute for an inadequate airport which will forever limit your potential and ours. The issue is simple. We.are convinced that the plan of your Board of County Com- missioners would . . . : the Boca Chica Naval Air Station. 2. Forever limit the size of aircraft which could serve Key West to the extent that Key West’s potential vacationers, its Naval personnel and other citizens will never enjoy the enefit of low cost air transportation which National pioneered for other Florida cities. JA —— a a 3. Waste an excessive amount of money on taxi strips and a terminal building as a monument to an inadequate airport. And note this: your Board of County Commissioners wants us to pay for these inadequate “improvements” retroactively to January Ist, 1954, even though construction has not begun and there is no assurance that it ever will get started. Would you be willing a trance that it ever will get started. to pay rent on your house or apartment a year or more before it was even built? We don’t think so! Transportation is the artery through which the lifeblood of your economy flows. National stands ready, willing and able to give you the finest transportation and the lowest fares ... and has a proven record of spending its money and effort to build Florida cities! If you'd be interested in reading our letters to your elected Board of County Com- missioners setting forth in detail our objections to their plan and offering what we believe are the best alternative plans please write today to me, c/o National Airlines, Key West. G. T. Baker, President Let’s give Key West its rightful place in the sun... let’s work together to build your future and ours! — NATIONAL AIRLINE OF THE. STARS
