Rabbi Schwartz views this holi-| day as the “Scales of Life.” rking the beginning and the | passing of years is a common prac- tice among men. Every people and | civilization has a New Years. | There is therefore nothing remark- | able in the fact that there is a Jewish New Year. It is known as Rosh Hashonah, which means in actual translation the principal day of the year. The wav the Jewish people celebrate it are, however, important and dif ferent. ‘Residents Park ‘Cars To Stymie ‘Pole Erection PRESTON, Md. (®—An automo- q ‘Colonel Fleming Awaits Word On Sentence FT. The Zodiac sign of Tishrah, the| month in which Rosh Hashonah oc- curs, is the Scales, symbolically judged in a heavenly Book of Ac- counts on these days. Man is “‘on the scales of life.’ Mention of a heavenly book of accounts, refers to both dealings and conduct be- tween men and men, and between men and God. One cannot be bal- anced or mixed with the other. Man must be kind always to man and realize the responsibility to his fellow man all year round as we as the responsibility of appreciat- ing the gifts and goodness of the Father in the Heaven. Mankind must balance obliga- tions and place on the scale these accomplishments from all through the years doing on these two days of Rosh Hashonah in addition of his mind and thoughts. He should correct this if he finds an unbal- anced scale. The Jewish custom is to make three kinds of offerings on these days. They are ‘‘Penitence,” “Pra- yer” and “Charity.” Naturally these three offerings must come from within the hearts of men, and because it comes from the heart Caroline County community.
