Mrs. Jeff Knight, chairman of the service committee, introduced several service projects for con- sideration by the chapter. The members, by unanimous vote, chose as one of their projects the purchase of a resusitator for newborn infants to be presented to the Monroe General Hospital for use in the maternity ward. The second project, also unani- mously adopted, is the “Joy for Underprivileged Children Fund.” The purpose of this fund is the purchase of many items dear to the hearts of children, for under- privileged pupils in the first through the sixth grades of all schools in the city. A teacher from each school will be selected as sponsor. She will Submit lists of items to be pur- chased from time to time which will be used for these children. The items will include Audubon Screen Tours, special movies, books, crayons and participation in the designated activities sel- ected by the teacher-sponsor. Ways and means committee chairman, Mrs. W. C. Rabon, Jr., presented ideas submitted by the members of her committee for fund raising. Several original ideas were dis- cussed and tentative plans were made for affairs which will be announced at a later date. The money raised will be used for the service projects. The year-book under Mrs. Joe Allen will include service and ways and means projects, the social calendar and planned programs. This will be distributed to mem- bers and to the International office. Mrs. Ida Gelrich, secretary, pre- sented the constitution and by- laws for the new chapter and they were unanimously adopted. . The exemplar chapter will enter a decorated car in the motorcade during the ferry fiesta and mem- bers will act as hostesses at the open house aboard the ship, After the business session end- ed, members remained for a lively social hour during which delicious refreshments were served by the hostesses for the evening. Holy Name Society Elects Officers; Plans Rosaries At the regular business meeting following Communion Breakfast, the members of St. Mary, Star of the Sea Parish Holy Name Society elected Harry Leuck as president for the forthcoming year. Mr. Leuck is a Lt. Commander at Boca Chica Field and resides at 828 Truman Ave. Elected to serve with Mr: Leuck as vice president was Eugene C. Fredette, Sr.; John Anastasia was elected as secretary while Francis X. Delaney was elected treasurer.
