The late Johns stressed his opposition to creation of a state tax commis- sion, which he claims “would nul- lify homestead exemption” by Collins said the acting governor explained Silas Randolph r main job was to look after the wel- come stations on the Florida state raising assessments and his fight} jine against expansion of ‘Everglades National Park to permit oil ex- ploration in the glades area. It is true that the voters have performed a mighty deed already by putting Bernie Papy back in office. It is alse true that the Miami papers are still eating crow. It is dact not fiction that Cecil Webb swallowed his tongue when he hédrd the election re- sults. But Auld Clootio still maintains that he can’t brag about you until you have finished the job. Remember thet 9% of you wonderful ‘people flocked out to vote in that first primary, That in itself is se remarkable that the rest of the state still doesn’t believe it. You people went out with a vengeance to put Bernie Papy beck in office. We showed those galects in Miami that we love Papy and that we appreciate what he has done for Monroe County. We Demon- strated to the Miami gang and Cecil Webb and the Miami news- papers that the people of Monroe County will uphold anyone who champions their cause. Now we have to finith the job. And we have te do it in the grand fashion! We have te prove to the rest of the state that it was no fluke that 60% ef us veted on May 4th because 80% or more of us will vote again on May 25thl We have to because our jeb is only half-dene. Monroe County now has to unite with Lee, Hendry, and Cel- lier Counties in order to get a good State Senator. One thet will faithfully represent each of these four small counties, one that has time to devote to the problems that cenfrent these small counties. And remember that time is of the essence when yeu have four counties to represent. You can’t be burdened with ether pursuits when you serve the people. You cen’t serve the people. and corporations at the same time. You have to serve one or the other. Jim Franklin will serve the cérperations— Bill Neblett will serve the people! Auld Clootie first met Bill Neblett when | was lugging mail for Uncle Sam. | liked him from the very start. The guy hag @ wonderful personality, warm, friendly, You. feel at ease around Bill, You know he’s for you. But Franklin—Auld Clootle met him ence and the continent ef Lower Slobbevia must have been between us because it was that cold. It was like shaking hands with a corporation. And Auld Cloctie-had the opportunity to observe Bill Neblett where it counts—around children. It happened around Christ. mas time last year when Auld Clootie was decked out as Santa Claus, whiskers and all. The place was the Islander Drive-in Theatre and Bill Neblett was helping old Santa Claus hand eut gifts to the wee enes. Then and there Auld Clootie was convinced about Gill Neblett. The man loves chitdren! The kids had him hemmed in, pulling at him, yelling in his ears, and he loved it. He couldn't do enough for them. And as far as Auld Cleetie is concerned that was the test and Bill Neblett had passed it with flying colors! : Something else about Bill Neblett that Auld Cleetie admires is the man’s intelligence. The people ef Lee, Hendry, Cellier, and Monroe will have brains on their side when Bill becemes their Senator. The man is a marvel. He speaks four languages with equal facility. | should say five because he also speaks the language of the people. And that is a gift in itself. It is not an alien tongue like the language of the corporations! That language has always been alien to the people because it can only be understood by special interests! It is time that the people ef these four counties get the representation they deserve in the State Senate. Auld Cleetie is sure that Menroe County will flock to the support ef Bill Neblett. And Lee, Hendry, and Collier have demonstrated that they are tired of Franklin too. Travis Gresham whipped him in these three counties and Auld Cleotie is sure that the Gresham sup- porters will now back Neblett just as the Parrett supporters are now pushing Neblett. Let’s give our new State Senator, Bill Neblett, a vote of confidence by getting eut the vote. Bill will thank us later on by his creative legislation in the Senate, legislation designed te meet the needs of the people. But a few more words, a smear campaign is currently being conducted in Lee, Hendry, and Collier Counties against Bill Neblett. Auld Cleotie sincerely hopes flat this will end, as hate never won a campaign. If it continues Auld Cleotie will be forced to pose this question: Whit county was it that FRANK. LIN last RAISED A “STINK” IN by spreading rotten rumors? - And that question should never be posed, believe me. Your chances are SLIM, JIM, but keep it clean! AULD CLOOTIE. (Chas. It’s not true. But, I do think, the mazner in which the police officers stationed at the meeting conducted themsel- ves could breed serjous resentment among some of gur citizens. “Let me ask you a question, Mr, Perez: ‘Just why were you agsign- ed to Lonel pe at that meeting?’ “In nearly three years of report- ing the news for The Citizen, I have covered hundred of meetings in the city hall. Some of them have been a lot hotter than laet Wed- nesday’s. Some of them had racial implications. “But never have I seen three po- lice officers stationed at any other meeting to keep order.
