Capps, a 22-year-old Army vet- eran, was convicted of first-degree murder—with a death penalty vec- ommendation—last night in the slaying of a teen-age neighbor girl. A jury of nine men and three women deliberated less than two hours before returning the verdict. Capps had admitted shooting 15- year-old Marta Gibbons through the head but maintained he was intoxicated and temporarily in- sane. The girl’s frozen and partially clad body was found by the edge of a lake several miles from her home in the new community of Levittown last Jan. 25. Capps testified he and the girl had been intimate in the rear of his. automobile, with her consent. He said they later argued and he shot her. The state contended he acted in fear she would tell his wife, who was expecting a baby at the time. Freight For Starlings Planned In Mass. BOSTON (#—Flocks of starlings have been ruining the sleep of Quincy residents near the Fore River Bridge. With a novel plan to scare the birds away the Pub- lie Works Department has obtained approval for purchase of a tape- recording outfit. ‘ Frightened cries of captured starlings will be recorded and played back to the flocks at the bridge. Earthworms are found nearly all over the world. Because the earth is not a per- fect sphere the length of a degree of latitude varies slightly between the poles and the equator.
