Some casting has of artistic arangements are to be shown. already been done, but Director Leading Citizens Make Reservations For Red Cross Victory Dance March 9 The Red Cross Victory Dance slated for March 9 at the Casa Marina is beginning to gleam with social patina. A list of the dis- tinguished citizens who have almady made reservations for the event was announced today by Mrs. Carlos Gellrich, president of Beta Sigma Phi, who are sponsoring the benefit affair. The roster fined $50 each yesterday —— then were the alternative of at- tending the police department's traffic safety school for an hour and a half for each of three nights, im rt te nm coccqiomese tian Tomorrow sees the end of the second month of the year. Lent has begun and Easter isn’t too far off. Time really flies when you are busy. To unlucky shut-ins it goes so slow, why don’t you take time off to send a cheerful card to some poor ailing soul. You don’t know how: it helps, or do you? going on apace, and I have some mighty cheerful things to report herein myself. So lets take a big long walk down Duval St. x ** Beach fogs at Ideal Togs that tourists have been buying at a great rate should be just as at- tractive for Key Westers who have more time to enjoy them. These are thirsty terry cardi- gans, sleeveless pullovers and trunks. Beach days are starting now, and the tykes will be so comfy in the terry. The little cardigans are sweaterlike and oh so washable and have colorful and gay Key West scenes print- ed on them with permanent no run ink, The pullovers and trunks match, and don’t forget the smart little, visored hat to keep the sun from a freckled nose. Beauty prize of the week goes to the Nylon poodle suit. It’s of navy blue cotton clisse, a bloom: er girl style all beruffied with white nylon tricot in rumba style across the back and around the legs, The matching bra gives fetching lines to” baby figures one to six and is also beruffied. It’s called “Little Miss Chief’ and should make the little squaw irresistible. 4 x + I guess there must be a lot of folks in this town who have clock radios and who are awakened each morning by "soothing music. So have I. Now being a civic minded lass, ani glo rathér curious as to what is going’ on right here in Key West, even at seven in the A. M., my radio is tuned to WKWF, but alas and wlatk; I am about to be- come a’ parith® in my own par- rish because I can't take it. any- more; ‘This morning. right after Dixie, I was blasted out of bed onto the cold dusty floor with “Right in the Middle of the Mid- , dle West,” sand nearly went ber- serk. »: T’'ve been listening to cowboy la- ments, lonesome coondogs, and nasal harmony just about as long as I can stand it. Several calls to the“station with the plea to play something, anything but boot, and saddle dirges has only elicited the information that that is what, “they” want. Now who in the heck is “they,” and am I the only listener in Key West who doesn’t like this sort of music? It's enough to send me scurrying back to the old fashioned alarm clock! x * These here now Sylvia Appll- ances are the Cats! Believe me folks this small new store has gleaming refrigerators or stacks ef electric percolators displayed prominently in the windows - muh! Net in this store, although @ time, and so, in an attractive setting, gleaming like a jewel, you'll see a single toaster or Hamilton Beach Mixer, or per- fhaps a coffee maker at various times. Don't forget, Syivia Appli- ances is opening up out on Flag- fer Ave, this weekend, and they have @ new and original mer- chandising. plan. Walt fer the Sylvia representative, but do come by and see for yourself too! * * You are probaoly beating your brains out trying to find some- thing new to feed the family these Lenten fast days. I recently found a recipe for Tuna Timbales that bit the spot and asked for repeats, you heat 2 table spoons of butter or margarine is a heavy skillet, Add one cup chor ped unnsred sopte and one teh’ spoon of minced onion and coo watil tender. Then stir in two cups flaked tuna fish and one cup lime Deans. Then heat another table. @poon butter and blend in one “tablespoon flour and one teaspoon galt. Add three fourths cups of milk and cook until thickened and add to fish mixture. Then stir into Shop Hopping has really been | three whole eggs weil beaten. Pour into greased pan, set in pan of hot water and ‘bake for thirty minutes or until set. This makes 8 servings. x & *® 1 was going to write about the Monstera at Baldwin's Nursery, | but arrived late yesterday after- noon and by golly, found they were completely Monstera-ed {| out. Anyhow the Monstera is a j beautiful climbing plant of tro- pical America, and th will be another shipment of these beau- tiful climbers real soon. This is the darndest Shop Hop- ping item | ever wrote, like the little man who wasn’t there - but it just shows you how popular Baldwin’s is getting here-a-bouts. And don’t forget - VISIT THE FLOWER SHOW! zx * *& I don’t know what happened, or whose fault it was, but if you noticed, that little poem in the Shop Hopper that | reprinted that was supposed to be so cute and funny just missed being either. It was sent to me by Mrs. Gregory who is associated with Baldwin's, and I wanted to share it. Well it’s much too long to re-print, al- though it-would serve some folks right, but such a jumbled up mess I never saw. I suspect sabotage. On the other hand, the proof read- er saved me an you -too a lot of embarrassment the other day when she discovered that my re- cipe for oatmeal bread didn’t have any oatmeal in it and cut one of the other fillers in half to substi- tute for the poor ol’ bread recipe. Wouldn’t you bave had a hissy now, if you had started out to bake the bread and .0 oatmeal? So just take my word for it that the poem was cute and my thanks again to Mrs. Gegory, and a low bow to the Baldwins because we flubbed. * 4 Little Miss Key West is bound to lead the style parade this Easter, if the preview of Easter dresses and hats at the Child- dren’s Corner are any indica- tion. From now til Easter all the | Children’s Shops will be full of these fluffy frothy things and Mother can indulge to her heart’s delight in the frills and furbelows of childhood, on her favorite daughters. The dresses are in beautiful | erganzas, embroidered and ruf- fled, and fine rayons and nylons, polished cottons in pique and | sateen, and all in those beauti- ful ice cream colors. The hats are in the dream- world class. Ail the cunningest artists have devised the prettiest embroidered concoctions of or- gandy, nylon and nylon sheers. For the pig tail set, matching straw bonnets and bags trimmed in lace, ribbons and flowers, for the sub-teens smooth Milans in shell shapes. ice Cream colors here too, and hues to vie with the eggs in your Easter basket. * * ® All of which reminds me, that there is going to be another Flow- er Show beginning st noon on Sat- urday at the Elks Club. Our annual |flower show has become |famous that it rated a feature in the National Georgraphic maga- zine this year. Outside of the fact that it has ‘vad nation-wide pub- licity, it is really something to see.
