Marooned In Garrison Bight meee gem aR SES Yachting Facilities Needed. |Skipper Wilson Learns Here ROWING BACK’ AND FORTH IN GARRISON BIGHT ISN’T MUCH FUN BY SUSAN MCavoy Mrs. Marge Ann Kenney loves cruising on the big 60- foot yacht Citizen Staff Photo MRS. HARRY KENNEY, shown with her husband, right, and Skipper Dud Wilson of the Yacht Silver Spray, left, spent five days aboard the yacht in Garrison Bight last week because it “is such a nuisance to row back and forth to shore.” Pretty Marge Ann, her husband, and Skipper Wilson, all wish Key West had facilities for tying up and for servicing yachts. For we had to stand onthe breezy dock on the Boulevard: Saturday morning and wait for her husband to row us to the boat. “Like all yachtsman, I dread coming into Key West because it has no facilites to tie up or service a yacht,” Wilson said. “I love Key West, however, and I brought the boat down from Palm Beach for a trial. We'd keep it here all winter if there were some place to tie up. As it is we ane taking her back to Palm Beach.” She rode out the 60- miles per hour gale Friday as though she were on a mill pond, Skipper Wil- son said. “This is a fine harbor for. a storm, but it’s inconvenient to have to row back and forth to shore.” The Silver Spray is the larger of Wilson’s two yachts. He also has a 50 footer, “The Pirate.” The big boat has three heads, a good-sized bathtub, plenty of hot water. Though there are only three aboard now, she sleeps 12, including com- fortable crews’ quarters in the bow. Saturday the Silver Spray flew the owner’s flag and an ensign. Made entirely of teakwood, she gleams as though she were a brand new boat. A propane gas stove provides good cooking facilities in 1) the galley. Wilson runs the large boat from the bridge where he has a ci vient chart rack, magnificent vi bility, ship to shore radio. A member of the Maumee River Yacht club, Toledo, O. Wilson has cruised up and down the Inland waterway. Though he came down inside from Palm Beach week, as far as Craig, Fla., he is: re- turning on the outside. Like many yachtsmen he wishes the inland Water way. would be extended from Bahia Honda down to Key West, ‘and that there would be, more drawbridges on the Keys. When Dud Wilson and the Ken- ney’ 's return to Key West it will be in one of his two Jaguars or his antique Rolls Royce. Wilson is even more of a car collector than a yachtsman these days. In Palm Beach he is working. with James Melton for the establishment of an old car museum there. || Admission Of Red Activity In Past Enough To Deport WASHINGTON (#—An alien’s ad- mission that he belonged to the !|Communist party briefly in 1932 is sufficient cause for his deporta- Hj ‘tion, the Supreme Court has ruled. CONCH CHOWDER By RAYMER Don’t forget to go to the dogs on Friday. That’s the night of the Humane Society ball at the Elks Club annex. Sponsors may _ap- iproach you to buy tickets. They don’t cost much and they are for a wonderful cause. Even Earle Johnson, now owner of a black kitten named Domino (there’s a tale to that name), is ticket dis- tributing. You can also buy tickets at the door. Every penny goes to the fund, much needed by the Key West Humane Society, which sees that neglected and homeless animals are cared for until homes are found for them. Remember the fluffy poodle which had its picture in the paper around Thanksgiving time? That dog now lives with the Ski Skewis family and is named Lady Duff. She’s very happy now instead of forlorn and wistful. . . and it all was due to the Humane Society efforts to help. Spaghetti dinner at Jim Cobb’s Sunday proved that he keeps not only an ear to the ground but a deft hand on the meatball situa- tion. Out of less than a pound of ground beef, he made 15 meat- balls which we enjoyed with the dinner. Chef prowess displayed by Domino's owner, who was there, has its rival. Also on deck to munch, or rather slurp, the Italian dish were Marianne Cavanaugh, Karl and Deedee Agricola and my- self. After, we all went to the Key West Artists movie held in the areroom at the Trade Winds, where we joined the patient Chases who waited an hour for us. Much fun over a remark of an unknown critic in the audience. A series of views of a Chinese artist named, believe it or not, Dong Kingman, showed him wandering around San Francisco’s Chinatown. He was photographed in the streets, in parks, talking to friends, watch- ing children at play, but nary a stroke of the paint brush for some time. Finally the caption read, “And now see Dong Kingman carrying his juipment always ready to paint.” The critic said in a stage whisper, “Always ready, but he never gets around to doing it.” He did, though, finally and the composition was ding-dong! FAWTU GALS really laid into the lei situation for the Hawaiian luncheon motif on Friday. Every guest received a bright one at the lively affair. I found out that a muu-muu is not just a native way of baby talk for cow. It’s a kind of garment worn by the hula dancers when there is a shortage of grass or cellophane for the other type of island skirt. . .For- got to ask Avalon Bigelow’s charm- ing mother-in-law if she knew any Mormons.
