If I had one day to spend during he next month anywhere in the orld I chose, for this Christmas ason I'd choose New York. In at city it’s very special, and no her place or time can be com- red with it. If this sounds like ostalgia . . . it is. Like nowhere se in the world is it as Christ- asy, as one of the world’s largest ities leans over backwards to be cious. Bright stars shine from he tall steeples of her churches d the streets glow like ribbons light crisscrossing north, south, st and west. The mammoth tree n Rockefeller Center, that miracu- always seems to top any in any other city by inches feet, stands straigtt ani tall ith its balloon size lights gleam- the firs. tree of the land. Along the avenue other trees are ight in memory of the boys who on't ever see any more Christ- pases, their stars votive prayers souls departed and other little oys grown up. The stores are jammed as in no her city and the windows are ied with the treasures of the orld. On the last day before ristmas, the excitement reaches peak. Everyone who still has he strength is out on the streets rms filled with gay packages. ven if my shopping is done, and usually isn't, because I probably rgot Aunt Minnie or cousin Ed's test arrival, I have to get out nd see the crowds, listen to the rols pealing from all sides, see lights and glitter for the last me ‘til another year, probabiy itch pneumonia, but thoroughly erjoy myself. Anyone got a magic carpet for hirez w 4th ok All new furniture is a nice thing to have, but for most of us that would be too drastic a change .,. . in the pocketbook. Every once in a while though, it’s nice to add a new piece, and that most of us can do. A stroll through Altman’s will convince yo it’s tne for that new chair, couch or table. Here they have the newest and most beautiful furniture imeginable. No need to journey te Miami now that Altmans have come to town. Then . .. spark your rooms with new lemps. The lamps here are really out of this world. Odd shapes, vivid colors, all sizes. One | saw would really be a. new departure. It’s a pin-up of spun aluminum with a vivid plas-.. tie and spun glass shade. The. new departure comes when you pin it on the wall just above your bed. It has two lights, spot- lighted. No more of that old argument when you are wide awake and want fo read and hubby wants to sleep. Direct YOUR light fo your side of the bed and read as long as you. wish. You won't bether a soul. | couldn’t think of a nicer Christ- mas gift, could you? x & & Someone started studying MEN again, this time the relationship between the American man’s oc- cupation and his physique. Now that’s an interesting thing to study. Anyhow, they found out that scien- tists tend to be rather lean and muscular, from wrestling with molecules no doubt; artists and lawyers and generally portly; teachers are inclined to be thin, and I could name some who claim to be underpaid; while the ‘‘typical American” is tall, muscular and well proportioned. It must have been fun making that survey... . A college survey shows that over 50 per cent of the boys questioned listed “good looks” as the least essential characteristic of a dating partner. Oh brother! Rk ok There's nothing as sweet as a wee one in Philippine hand made dress and slip. They launder so well, and always look like new ‘til the very last. That's why mammas will love to have them as gifts to the baby, and Ideal Togs has a whole shipment of these wonderful little garments. The next size can dress up for church in the prettiest white sheer nylon dress | believe I’ve seen. A full skirt, black veivet sash, tucked waist and bolero of ebon black velvet em- broidered in pearls. and rhine- stones. $v g Tween-tim will love the shocking pink polished cottons with deep cuffed three quarter length sleeves, scoop neck, wide black belt and gay buttoned front. More subdued, but just as gale « @ two tone grey with high standing collar, interesting shirred three quarter sleeve and wide wide red and gold belt to pinch a tiny waist. It’s enough to make a girl clothes conscious just to go into Ideal Togs these days! There are those as think that girls are clethes conscious from the cradle anyhow! et Now here’s a charming suggest- ion for a Christmas gift... .. found in the Journal of course! “Comfort powders make charm- ing Christmas gifts. Write strong, helpful, inspiring quotations on squares of paper, one for each day of the year, then fold like medi- cine powders.” I can just see some of my friends when they receive year, tok &% There once was a babe from “Madrid” Whose green dyed hair Donald did So beware when you go To Doneld’s you knew —— that he’s popping his % 22k And a thousand pardons to Don- ald because straight from dream- jland were the hair creations at the | Beta fashion show t'other evening, and Donald, Sue, Ann and all the other kids really worked their | little fingers to the bone making them so, Now that Thanksgiving is over nd Christmas is coming up, be re to get that shopping done for your maiiing list.
