For the first time in the six year his- tory of the contest in Key West, the competitors will all be girls. Last year’s winner was Eugene Roberts, local high school student. The contest, which will be broad- cast over radio station WKWF, is scheduled to get underway at 8:00 m. The contestants, Delaney of the Convent of Mary Immaculate, Miss Joyce Mounts, . Douglass High School and Miss ‘ Carol Dalton, Key West High School, will offer five minute, |. self-prepared addresses using as | their theme, “I Speak For Demo- cracy.”” The girls will be competing for a chance at the state finals and later the national finals where the winner will- be the recipient of a four year college scholarship. The sailor, William Henry Chestnut of Vincennes, Ine diana, perished despite the heroic rescue efforts of Cap- tain John I. Stout of the Naval Station Fire Department, who entered the building and carried the 215-pound man from the scene which was permeated with an extremely high concentration of the gas. Mystery surrounded the circum- stances of the sailor's death ak though he was said by a ship- mate to have been in a highly intoxicated state, having just re turned from a beach party. He got into the barracks, which was i clothing.
