Compiles Top Safety Record The highest tribute paid by the | National Safety Council, the Award of Honor, was recently presented to Bell Telephone Companies in Recognition of an accident fre- quency less than one-fifth that of industry in general. The communication industry has topped all major industries in sa- fety performance in each of the Past eight years, according to the president of the Council. During | the past two-year period, 1950-51, telephone employees established a frequency rate of less than one ac-| cident for each half million hours | worked, compared with more than four for industry in general. In Dade and Monroe Counties, | Southern Bell operated 385 vehicles, and the outstanding safety record of telephone employees in this area has played an important part in the winning of this award. Based on a comparison of the safety record since 1930 with that of a 1926-36 base perift, C. F. Craig, president of the A. T. and 'T. Company, credited an improving safety program with preventing 700 fatalities and 57,000 injuries | in the Bell System in the past 21 years. Dr. J. A. PUBLIC CORDIALLY INVITED Key West Scouting Is Now On Upswing The Cub Scouts of Pack 253 were one of the high lights of the Armis- tice parade held here on Tuesday. These little fellows, 16 strong, re- fused to ride in automobiles, in- sisting that they wanted to march with the grownups. The Pack has just been re- organized. Cubmaster Don Lock- ridge and Assistant Cubmaster Don | Auclair, with the aid of three Den Mothers and two Den Chiefs are doing an excellent job with the | boys. The two Den Chiefs, members of Boy Scout Troop 253, marched with the Pack. One was a color bearer and the other was a color |guard. The other color guard was a boy scout. Fourteen members of Boy Scout troop 253 also marched |with the scout group representing | their troop. ; The boys scout program in Key | West has been undergoing a re- jorganization program for the past jtwo months and there are now scout troops which are not only active, but are up and coming. Cub scouts are from 8 to 11 years of age, boy scouts from 11 to 14 years and explorers are from 14 to 18 years of agé. Fellows who are active in scouting make many lasting friends, work and learn a lot and really enjoy themselves.
