EL PASAJE RESTAURANT 1005 Truman Ave. NOW OPEN 1951 Hotel Clerk, Cash And Auto Vanish Early This Morning STATEWIDE ALARM IS BROADCAST FOR MISSING CLERK A 23-year-old hotel clerk who disappeared at the same time as funds and a late model automobile from the Southern Cross Hotel early this morning is the ob- ject of a statewide search today. The man, Robert Schmerkorn was reported by hotel owner Vic- tor Lang to have disappeared early this morning between the hours of 2:00 and 7:00 a. m. with $60.50 in hotel receipts and a 1950 grey Chev- rolet coach belonging to Lang, who said that he will swear out a war- rant for his arrest today. The Sheriff’s office immediately sent out a statewide radio alarm for his apprehension after the clerk was found to be missing at 7:00 a. m. today by Mrs. Lang as she checked the hotel. Schmerhorn, who had held the position of night clerk only since Sunday, was last seen in the lobby at 1:00 a, m., which! could have given him a six hour start on his pursuers. The slight, 150-pound fugitive id by Lang to have been a rig! id’. He added that he had given him the job without referen- ces. A description listed the man as being 5’8” tall with a blonde crew haircut, and a large blue tat- too on his arm. This morning Van Roy Northrup, 32, and Robert Roy Lamb, 30, were sentenced to one year in the Mon- roe County jail for grand larceny.
