AFL Workers Out To Protest Firing Of Six Union Men AUGUSTA, Ga: @—Efforts . t¢ settle a strike of technical workers at the huge H-bomb plant failed Thurs. and union spokesmen said Picket lines would be re-estal Monday. About 200 members of the Amer- ican Federation of Technical Engi- neers (AFL) went on strike. Mon- day, protesting the firing of six workers. Union leaders claimed the men were fired for union activity. The picket lines were withdrawn Monday night pending further at- tempts to settle the dispute. Joseph Garvin, of Philadelphia, union offi- cial, claimed the Monday picket lines shut down all work at the plant, where 37,000 workers are employed in construction. The union set this morning as a deadline for the Miller Electric Co., of Jacksonville, Fla., a sub-con- tractor at the plant, to re-hire the discharged workers.
