John Loves Mary Will Be First Production For Key West Players This Season The first production of the year George Renna. Don Pearson and for the Key West Players will be the light comedy, “John Loves Mary” with Mickey Renna as di- rector, Assistant director is Doro- thy: Raymer. Producer will be George Renna with the job of co- ordinating all the phases. Ski Ske- wis will handle the job of stage manager. The selection was announced at a highly successful and well attend- ed meeting of the Players held at the Barn Theatre Tuesday evening. About 75 members prospective members and guests turned out for the initial Yall meeting presided over by Gladys Willing, president of the group. Mrs, Willing greeted the crowd and predicted “an interesting and exciting season to look forward to this winter.” She reported briefly on seeing plays in New York and summer stock then, announced the choice of “John Loves Mary” | which was decided upon at a board of director’s meeting held Monday immediately after her arrival in Key West. The treasurer’s report by Dr. Harold List was encouraging.. Min- utes were read by Gladys Jackson, secretary, and approved. The as- sembly immediately got down to business with appointing of com- mittee chairman on the volunteer basis. New repair committee will be headed by Glenn West. The house committee for maintenance and Tounds will include Jack Clarke and West will work with chairman Nor- man Street on the lighting and elec- trical department.. Jeanne Skewis volunteered to maintain a new post, that of libra- rian for the Players. Wardrobe committee will include a Mrs. Low- ry and Virginia Komlos. Mrs. Don Pennington volunteered for props, The scrap book will be kept by Gladys Jackson and Tomi Karns. Ski Skewis will head the stage crew committee with several help- ers including (we hope) Burt Gar- nett, who is the main stay of the scenery workers. Full committees will be announced by chairman for the make-up and other branches. Special attention was given guest speaker Richard Ertzman, Key West High School Drama ,Director who said that Saturday October 25, would be the date when a large group of theatre-minded students “Among the things they want to see are the two one-act plays by Tennessee Williams (The Case of the Crushed Petunias) and (Moo- ney’s Kid Don’t Cry), which were presented here last spring and will be repeated for the visitors.”’ Ertzman told how his drama class had gone to Miami. He was so- impressed that he invited the Miami schools to visit here. Said he, “Since the Key West Players is the only really active group here, I came to you tonight to ask for your cooperation.” The Players unanimously agreed to give their best efforts. Ertzman outlined the program for October 25 and stated that re- presentatives from both the Ring and Box Theatres of the U. of Mia- mi would be here with the drama head, Fred Koch and that students from Miami Sr. High, Jackson High, Miami Edison, Coral Gables and Miami Beach high schools would be in Key West. The five main points which the out-of-town dramatists are most interested in, Ertzman emphasiz- ed, were concerned with monogues, scenery, make-up, improvisation and dirction. He invited the Players to attend the conferences at the high school auditorium beginning with a gener- al meeting at 1:30 p. m., Oct. 25, He expects Mayor C. B.
