Sri oF, 5 HOLLYWOOD NOTES By BOB THOMAS (First of two articles on Holly: wood’s part in the presidential race. Today: The campaign for Eisenhower.) HOLLYWOOD As in the rest of the nation, the main topic of Seam in Hollywood today is ics. No prévious campaign has evoked so much interest and activi- ty as the 1952 race. To report Hollywood's part in the election, I visited the local headquarters of both sides and talked te some of the campaigners. First, alphabeti- cally, came the Eisenhower group. Hollywood's drive for Ike is di- rected by the Enfertainment In- dustry Joint Committee For Eisen- hower-Nixon. The nature of this group was explained by Mickie tom tear hi aos Sh ice. *. “The committee was formed in wood. Republican Committee, which was formed in 1947, and the Independent Volunteer Committee, which was organized last spring to promote Eisenhower's nomination. Since the latter comprises many former Democrats and Independ- ents, it was felt a new group should be formed apart from the Republican committee.” The GOP groups lists such of- ficials as George Murphy, Robert Montgomery, Walt Disney, Ginger Rogers, Adolphe Menjou and McCarey. The volunteers are headed by powerful studio heads J. L. Warner, Samuel Goldwyn and Darryl Zanuck. Members include | Fred Astaire, Irving Berlin and | Clifton Webb.
