The Pioneer Spirit Survives” xk kk * HIGHWAYS TO THE MOST HIGH Es ees! By RALPH ROGERS The rapid trend toward social- ‘sm by individuals and by govern- ments seems to be contageous. Its the idea of something for nothing and canbe likened to the Gold Rush of the 40’s. The difference seems to be that in the 40's the in- dividual, had to make an invest- ment and take a risk in order to up the gold. In socialism the ividual simply keeps’ still and the" gold is mailed to him. Let us not get a false idea how- ever. The provision being made for the aged and needy is most justifiable. In fact they are not being adequately provided for. A @trong appeal will be made to the Bext legislature in an effort to pro- vide for at least the minimym meeds of the family. Our govern- ment is anxious to provide for the @eedy and the aged. The staggering back-log of ap- peals for assistance together with the large number of cases to be re-checked makes it impossible for the case workers to keep up up with their work and do it thoroughly. Consequently there are a large number of fraudulent cases gradually coming to light. They seem to be of those individuals who are just too lazy to work, or cover up income or resources de- liberately in order to get ‘easy’ thoney. The taxpayer has a right to complain when such cases come to light and yet it is. almost im- possible with the limited workers | By Stephen J. Constant Contained within the Judeo-Chris- tian Scriptures are two of * the greatest promises the world has ever known. Why they are not continuously shouted from: the housetops by those who have made religion their profession is a mys- {tery that baffles many enlightened students of spiritual life. The, first of these two great pro- mises is incorporated within the 91st Psalm. I would like to touch upon it here and consider the other at a later date. In words impos- sible to misunderstand it states quite simply that any human | being who makes God Himself his home, will ottsin ys Oe benefits that are bey: ice, benefits so incredibly wonlesful | that few ever really believe that | the promise could or. would be kept. Yet those who have fulfilled: the conditions, met the. stipulations, know beyond all shadow of doubt made good. God is not mocked. Neither are we, His children. Apparently what bother most people who have given this any serious thought is’ the end. How are we to go about making God Himself our abiding place, our home? There is but-one way and it has. never varied. He who would make of the Most High his habitation must’turn his life and his. will over to the care of God. Not in’ part, not once in a while, but wholly, fully, totally. The decision to turn your life to ferret out all the frauds. It is refreshing to find some who really want to do for themselves. It is evidence that the pioneer spirit is not altogether dead. The following letter shows the right attitude and represerits the type of American of which we are all proud, Deat Welfare Worker: After a visit from a very nice ‘oung case worker of yours, my band and I discussed at length last night the possibilities of our taking’ full responsibility of our mother. Repeatedly he asks them: “Is it. really cold?” Laughing and shouting yn louder they assure him it isn't, lly, but he touches a big toe to water and quickly withdraws it.
