Mrs. Nell Mat- sewife living at K-4 Ft. Taylor, is the first, person so far to positively testify that an actual collision occurred. She was standing in her yard back of her house when she look- ed up toward the southwest and west observing, two aircraft. They were about a city block apart when she first w them. The Cuban plane was flying to- ward the southwest, she said, and the smaller plane was headed west at about the same I¢vel. ~ “¥ can't estimate in a number of setonds how long it was be- fore I looked again, but when I, did it. seemed ‘to me that the big plane turned to the left and its Jeft wing hit the smaller plane,” She stated. The slim housewife was pe tive that she saw a puff of gr ish smoke and red and orange streaks immediately after the impact. She saw the navy trainer plane begin to fall apart in mid-air and | w observed the bigger plane lose a wing then spin or roll se times before it nosed straight down and dropped into the sea. Mrs. Matthews demonstrated the position of the aircraft with two model planes handed to her by CAB authorities. Her demon- | stration showed that the SNB was slightly below and behind the airliner just before the big; plane made a left turn into the path of the smaller plane.
