Officials Not Required To Tell Assets Senate Judiciary Commitice Rejects Proposed Law For Office Seekers TALLAHASSEE, April (?).—A Senate judiciary commit- te yesterdeyv rejected a projosed law to require public officials to file sworn statements of their financial assets. The measure was one of 11 pro- posed by the senate crime study committee to fight crime and cor- ruption of public officials. Sponsors of the bill, answering criticism that has been current but was only slightly brought out at the hearing, said it would not discourage honest, successful men in private business from seeking public office because it contained adequate provisions to keep the information secret. All of the bills dealing with op- eration of race tracks were sent back to their sponsors for a con- ference with track officials, S. Pierre Robineau,-reperesent- ing a Miami dog track, said his group was not opposed to the in- tent of the proposals to curtail bookmaking, but did want “ to iron out some differences.” He did not disclose his tions. Senator Shands of Gainesville, chairman of the crime group, de- clared “we’re not trying to get at any individual although we feel some individuals may be the necessity, of passing such legisla- tion.” 12.— POR SHOULDERS...
