Here is how. the teams will be selected: All lads between 8 and 12 years of age—any boy who will not be 13 by August 1, 1951 is elibible—who sign up with par- ents or guardians permission will be summoned to the park for a workout. Managers will make their selections during the work- outs. © The. Little League began as a community project in Williams- port, Pa., in 1939. At that time it was not much more than a super- vised sandlot proposition. But-oh, brother! how it was to grow! It grew into giant size, a giant with seven-league boots. From the original 12 teams in one state it has grown and spread until last year it had 2,034 teams in 37 stat- es. It can’t miss 2,500 teams this year and might even soar beyond it. The playing rules are tailered down to the youngster’s tiny mea- surements and immatdre strength, such as 6 innings a game and bases 60 feet apart instead of 90.
