There were no stolen bases. Lefty Vita Vidal pitched against the Rabano last sunday which ac- counts for Henriquez going hit- less. Incidentally the Rabano team was victorious over the Fruta Bomba, although Vita struck out 18 batters. But the four errors committed by his team mates were costly. Well, wadda you know. some of games and are doing surprisingly good. Some of those donning their bdseball uniform once again en- clude Guillermo “Guiro” - Diaz, Idilio “Pancho” Salinero, Joe Garcia and Evelio “Skipper” Domenech, Rene Machin Jesus Rueda. Do the names sound familiar to you? = Guillermo Diaz probably has been off and on in the game for 20 years and has just about play- ed on every team and every league organized in this cjty. Diaz far from a teen-age is holding his own as effective today as almost when he- first | started throwing ‘em over the plate. Yes he is still doing mound duty. This newly organized baseball league which grew out of some joke has become the talk of the town and the attendance is in- creasing each week. At pres- ent the games are being played at the Oceanview park at the foot of Amelia street while work on the municipal stadium is slowly League officials are: Rafael Ferrer, president, Rene Roman, secretary, and. Ediarde Garcia, treasurer. Name of the-league is Tomato, and club u are as follows: Armando (not the Pie nTraynor you knew by the same name) Boniato (sweet potato) Antonio Arango, Jr. (Raddish) and Bienvenido Garcia, Fruta Bomba (Papaya Fruit). Office is located at the Cuban Club. Appearing in a Banana uniform, last Sunday was the once terror of the Young Sluggers baseball club, in the person of Idilio “Pan- cho” Salinero. “Pancho” is work- ing at first base but will serve as relief pitcher whenever needed. Because he has a strong left hand pitch and is a young kid Armando Fernandez has the quality of making a good pitcher, But he must learn to keep a cool head in crucial moments. League president Ferrer an- there will be a meeting of the officials Thurs- day night at the Cuban Club.
