IT PAYS TO ADVERTISE Editor, The Citizen: There is nothing on the cover of the current edition of “Liter- ary Florida” on the news stands, to indicate to passing tourists that it is an issue devoted en- tirely to Key West and its in- comparable attractions. Considering the publicity at- tending the sale of “Holiday,” with its one colorful article on |8!tIS é ems strange that | Key West, it no such publicity is being given a magazine that has dedicated a | full edition to the island city. Many tourists will leave Key West without knowing that they missed both a valuable guide and a souvenir to take back home. A KEY WEST BOOSTER. Several times his oppon- ents tried to corner him po-; litically but they did not | succeed. One of the latest! instances of that nature was in the 19386 campaign for the governorship of Florida. One candidate leveled his fire at Knight, asserting that he was supporting Fred | Cone, and then tried to show ulterior motives were prompting Knight to sup- port Cone. Immediately Colonel Knight released to the press a letter from the candidate, requesting Knight's support. Refused that support, he resorted to innuendos, directed at Knight. After the publication of the letter, it was evident to every politician in Florida that the candidate, who had taken Knight to task, was out of the race for the governorship. Knight adhered firmly to the dictum not to make} any commitments unless he was sure he could keep them. Lawyers are the butt of cracks, casting aspersions at their but Knight proved that a lawyer could be as honest as a man ineany oth- a good many w hon er calling. Colonel Knight entertain- ed something of a fierce pride in his probity. He shouldered away general criticism, but he was on his toes to fight if anybody cast a reflection on his honesty.
