Harden said early this after- noon that all receipts on the tax! will be earmarked, under his pro- posal, for sidewalks, paving or! sewer extensions. “For no otner purpose,” he said, “will I support a tobacco! tax.” A 10 percent tax, he said, will! mean only a cent and a half more! on # pack of cigarettes, and half ® cent on a five-cent cigar. It should yield the city roughly $25,000 a year, Harden added. The commissioner said that he would offer no other meeting, scheduled for 8 o'clock at the City Hall. the advisability of taxes on va- rious utilities is being carefully considered Ordinances which would au- therize a tobacco tax and various other levies were prepared yes-} terday by City Lancelot Lester in the event!
