The Cardinals’ “southpaw has allowed the Red Bex only one run in 18 innings he has worked on the mound. Cardinals scored three runs in the third on five hits to sew up the ball game and send Mickey Harris to the showers for the second time in the series. Breechen, the Cardinal south- pay, pulled out of a bad hole in the first inning when the bases were full and the powerful Rud York was at bat. The first base- man, a notoriously slow runner, was forced to hit into a double play as, Breechen kept the ball knee high and gave the big right- hander nothing above the knee- cap. The next game will be Tues- day at Sportsman's park in St. Louis, and Ferriss and Murry Dickson will be the opposing pitchers. Dillard planked a 38, that was just a little too much for. the. non-wood user and he fell, 2-1, Humbert Mira was never down as he scored a 3-up two to go! win over Stock Island’s mayor, Alton Park. Park kept the match on an even keel but Mira’s well) played 78 was a little too much for the Stock Islander, Harry Knight’s game was poor as he won, 3-1, from Curry Har- ris, but. his putter from hot to red hot.-The Knight boy had six straight one-putt greens on the first nine. His woods and iron game was below that of his opponent, but the lat- ter couldn’t compete when they reached the greens. Louis Pierce, in a great up- set, outpointed rugged Bob Knowles, 2-1. Louis read Knowles’ press clippings. and then proceeded to act like: he was from Missouri, and Knowles, unable to pull him- self together, fell in the No. 1 upset of the day.
