Bo- sox couldn't bunch any of their nine safeties for runs until late in the game, after it was sewed up by the Yanks. Washington Senaters defeated the Philadelphia Ahtletics in the tenth inning of their game when Johnny Welaj hit a homer. The victory boosted the Senators in- to first division ahead of the idle Chicago White Sox. Seore was 4 to 3. Cleveland Indians Louis Browns split header, the Browns taking the first game, 5 to 3, getting all their runs in a big fourth-inning rally. Indians pushed across five markers in the opening inning of the nightcap and went on to overwhelm the slipping Browns, 13 to 1. Brooklyn Dodgers kept their top position in the National’ League by defeating the Phila- deiphia Phillies in a ten-inning . 2 to 1. Dodgers received only four hits off the pitching of Kirby Higbe, getting one in the ninth which brought the score te a tie. Reese’s four-bagger in the tenth won the ball game.
