THE RECORDS ARE STILL TALKING! i HOLLAND voted YES on a resolution re- ‘| questing the President of: the United States to APPROVE the construction of a Cross-State Canal, (See H. C. R. 11, Journal Page 504, Session of 1933). Volumes have been written showing the dire effect a-Cross-State Canal would have on shipping in South Florida ports. FOR MANY YEARS NEWSPAPERS, as well as the man- on-the-street, have commented on the injustice that compels fishermen and spongers to pay a tax on the gasoline they use in their boats. HOLLAND voted NO on a bill that would have given back to those Seamen the taxes thev had paid on gasoline used in their boats. (See Senate Bill 747, Journal Page 728, Session of 1937). { | YOU PEEL AN ORGANGE, cut it and find out there's |B] little juice in it and what little there is tastes sour. You wonder why. because the rind was a beautiful Golden Color. But Nature did NOT color that orange: it was ARTI- FICIALLY colored. HOLLAND introduced the Bill that ‘per- mitted that orange to be ARTIFICALLY colored. It was what is called the “Color Added” Bill, and it cost Florida growers of Citrus Fruits Millions of Dellars by bring- ing Florida citrus fruits into disrepute all over the Nation. (See Senate Bill 37. Page 20, 1937 Session). | A BILL WAS PASSED IN THE 1937 SESSION OF THE } LEGISLATURE that imposed a license of ONE THOUSAND. DOLLARS on a contractor BEFORE he could even Bid on Public Projects in Florida exceeding $50,000. If You Bid and a was turned down, You did NOT get back your $1,000. THE BILL WAS DESIGNED to LIMTIT BIDDING on State contracts to a SMALL GROUP of contractors who had reasonable assurance they would be awarded the contracts. HOLLAND voted YES on that Bill. (See Senate Bill 954, Journal Page 996, Session 1935). THE BILL WAS PASSED, and the Supreme Court de- clared the Law UNCONSTITUTIONAL. But, despite the Supreme Court's cision, Holland was persistent, and on May 15, 1939, he introduced Senate’ Bill 779, Journal Page 415, that was similar io the discarded Law. Thé same License or Tax of $1.000 was. required, but Holland : emount of the i “This Bill seeks to create a monopoly upon roads being built in this state. The State had a law similar to this, and the Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional.” Above are the FACTS, above are the RECORDS (@aid Political Advertisement) Music will be pro-/ vided by Frank Black’s Concert} Absentee balloting for the May the | * B ties For Key West Signed Yesterday Convention Corporation FINAL HURDLES OVER- COME.
