Sea Wall : Bordering Property Line Makes Application To | War Department For Permission To Carry On Operations } (Special to The Citizen) JACKSONVILLE, March 31—| i Application has been made to the | War Depariment by the Thomp- | son Fish Company, of Key West, | Fla., for a permit to construct a| concrete retaining wall on the; water front of the property own- ed by the company on Caroline! street between William and Mar- | garet, according to announcement | made today by Earl North,| Lieutenant-Colonel, Corps of En- gineers, District Engineer. Plans of this work may be seen at the U. S. Engineer Office, 2nd floor of U. S. Courthouse and Post Office, Jacksonville, Florida, and U. S. Engincer Suboffice, Mi- ami Beach, Florida. “ It is not proposed to hold a public hearing on this application. Anyone desiring to protest the; proposed work from the stand- point of its interference with, or effect upon, navigation, should submit such protest in writing, with reasons in sufficient detail to-permit intelligent considera- tion. Protests should. be. mailed to the District Engineer, U. S. Engineer Office, P. O. Box 4970, Jacksonville, Florida, in time to be received on or before April 8, 1938. The work proposed is as fol- lows: The construction of a concrete retaining wall, dredging and filling. The area to be in- closed by the retaining wall ex- tends northerly for a distance of 178.5 feet from a line 149 feet} northerly of and parallel with the north line of Caroline street. It extends easterly from the east side of the pier west of the foot of Margaret street for a distance of 214 feet to the applicant’s east property line, 151.5 fect east of the east line of Margaret street. Dredging to rock will be per- formed over an area between the east line of William street and the applicant's east property line, 1515 feet east of Margaret street, a total distance of 603.5 feet. This dredging area will extend into the harbor for a distance of 250 feet from Caroline Street. The dredged material will be placed behind the proposed retaining walls. The proposed fill will ex- tend about 50 feet seaward of ex- isting structures, in that vicinity. IT 18 SHOWN TALLAHASSEE, Fila, March 31—(FNS) The semi-monthly audit of the Motor Vehicle De- partment on March 15, shows thes, the tag agencies of the state sold 278 less tags to that date this ‘year than they did in 1937, but that they received $322,754.47 more in revenue Motor Vehicle Commissioner. D. W. Finley, estimates that the sale of tags for new cars is ap proximately 40 per cent less this year than it was to March 15 of last year, and that revenue de rived from change in automobile certificates of title 1s about $12 000 less.
