She showed no traces of the terrible strain of yesterday's or- deal when she battled the treach- erous currents of the channel for 14 hours and 31 minutes, cross- ing from France to England in record-breaking time, automatical- ly becoming the first of her sex fo perform the’ feat:in a success- ful manner. The young American’girl not only accomplished a feat which swimmers of her sex had always attempted in vain, but she broke by nearly two hours the best pre- vious record made three years ago by Sebastian Tiraboschi, who made a successful swim of the channel.
