——— _ REASON FOR WOMEN’S “NERVES” In Very Many Cases It Is Weakened Kidneys. Mrs. Frank Roseboom, 512 S. Wash- ington St., Moscow, Idaho, says: “In- herited kidney trou- ble grew steadily worse with me until so nervous I could not sleep at night. I was dizzy and spots : floated before my 1 ET eyes. My back and ~Taly ‘ hips ached and every a mt cold settled on my kidneys and made me worse. Notwithstanding the financial panic, more money than ever before during the same period was sent to Norway from Norwegian-Americans dpring last December. se 8 The city council of Bergen has ap- propriated 347,800 crowns for the erec- tion of a new hospital on the Hauke- Jand estate in Aarstad, which belongs to the city. The building has been designated by Architect Nordan of Christiania. se 8 Mr, Batt, the minister from Norway to Tunis, has prevailed upon his home government to arrange for an exhibit of Norwegian goods in the commer- cial museum at Tunis, the purpose be- ing to* bring about closer trade rela- tions’ between the two countries. ee 2 * It is reported from the department of justice that the government will introduce a measure in this winter’s storthing authorizing the king to grant permission to districts of Nor- way to take possession of forest tracts that have fallen into the hands of pri- vate individuals in order to conserve the timber in the interest of the gen- eral welfare. se The exporters’ of undressed fish in Bergen have been made to feel the effects of socialism in a rather unusu- al way. They have been notified by the Norwegian consul at Messenia, Sicily, that the authorities of that city, which is under the control of the so- cialists, have decreed: that the«maxi- mum price at which undressed fish of the best quality can -be sold there is 80 centimes per kilogram, which is a much lower price than such firsh has sold for hitherto. As Messenia has been one of the best markets for Bergen fish, the Bergen exporters will suffer quite a loss through this social- istic order, * *# * I mentioned the fact at the time of Michelsen’s resignation’as premier steps were taken to organize a fund bearing his name, the proceeds from the fund to be used for the good of the land. Eight hundred lists were sent to the various cities and districts of the country to be circulated, and al- ready over one hundred have been re- turned. The reports of all the solici- tors are to the effect that the people are exceedingly willing to subscribe to the fund. In the city of Christiania over 50,000 crowns have already been collected, and it is expected that at least 100,000 crowns have been sub- scribed and the work there is not completed. 6.58 as There will soon be a Holberg room in the Bergen museum. The directors of the museum have written a letter to Editor John Nordahl-Olsen, accept- Ing with gratitude the collection of Holberg literature which he present- ed to them some time ago. It is the intention to go on collecting Holberg relics and make the Holberg room more and more _ interesting. The poet Holberg, the celebrated Danish dramatist, who wrote the most pop- ular comedies the North has produced, was born in Bergen and lived there till he was a young man, when he went to Copenhagen, where he ac- quired the culture of the Danish cap- ital and became the leading author of the land. Naturally the people of Bergen take a great deal of pride in Holberg, and it is fitting that there should be a. Holberg room in the museum. ‘ee ° The body of Gudrun, the seven-year- old girl who disappeared from her home in Christiania last summer and who, it. was supposed, had been car- ried away by a band of gypsies, was recently found in a water course near her home. Whether she was the not known. As will be remembered, search for the girl was instituted all over the country, and Johan Flottum, the wonderful boy with the sense, was asked to determine her whereabouts. He said that she had eee carried off by gyphies and traced her to a cavern some two hundred miles from Christiania, where, it was believed her captors had taken refuge. The people in that region blasted away hundreds of tons of solid rock in order to reach the innermost end of the chasm, but found no gypsies. The fame of the boy prodigy has suf- fered greatly on account of his blun- der in this celebrated case. eee Rey, Christian Knudsén delivered a notable address before the Ladies’ So- ciety in Drammen, in which he pre- dicted the downfall of the state church of Norway. In his opinion, he declared, ,it is inevitable that church and state cannot much longer go hand in hand. He hoped that the process of separation would be slow and grad- ual, so that it might be possible for the storthing, at an opportune mo- ment, to pass a measure favorable to the church, and that when the time for final separation has.come the re- lations between them might be friendly. It holds that the court should be open to others than counts and barons and that the rela tions between the king and the people would become far more pleasant if distinctions. of caste were not recog: nized at the court. *.* * Mr. Tengdahl, the social democratic candidate for the rigsdag in the fifth district of Stockholm, was elected by ‘an overwhelming majority over the candidate of the Citizen’s party. Johannes Skjoldborg, who wrote the famous song, “My Pick, My Shovel and My Spade,” which is sung all over Denmark, and of which nearly a hundred thousand copies have been sold, has received only 6.5 erewns for this offspring of his genius.
