By the Associated Press. NEWPORT NEWS, Va., April 20— Twenty-eight officials of the Chesa- peake & Ohio Railroad, including George A. Ball, principal stockholder in the Mid-America Corp., were in Newport News yesterday for what was termed as a routine inspection of com- pany property. Arriving here, the officials left their tpecial train and took a boat for & tour of inspection of terminal facili- ties here and at Norfolk from the water. NEW YORK, April 20.—8hell Union | Oil Corp. and subsidiaries reported net operating income for the first three months of 1937 at $3,674,479, equal to 24 cents a common share, compared | with the 1936 figure of $1,681,984 or 9 cents a share Electric Bond & Share. Electric Bond & Share Co. reported for the March quarter net income of | $2,460,049, compared with $2,180,936 | in the like 1936 period. Preferred div- | idends for both periods totaled $2 | 108,483, leaving earnings available for | the common stock of $351,566, flgl’dnsl $72,453 a year ago. Standard Products. Standard Products Co., Cleveland, reported for the March quarter net | income of $245,679, equal to 81 cents & capital share, compared with $264, 805, or 88 cents a share in the com- parable 1936 quarter. Allegheny Steel Co. Earnings of the Allegheny Steel Co. increased 63 per cent during the first quarter of this year over the same period in 1936. The company re- ported net profits of $551,054 for the three months ending March 31. This equaled 65 cents a share on 752,285 shares outstanding after preferred dividends were deducted. Youngstown Sheet. Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. re- | | ported earnings of $4,886,019.56 for the first quarter of 1937, the best | | quarter’s earnings in its history. The | earnings are roughly at the rate of $3.05 a share. In the corresponding | quarter of 1936, Sheet & Tube earned | $1,897,299, and in the last quarter of | last year its net earnings was $3,- | | 119,115, Sharon Steel Corp. | Sharon Steel Corp. reported net | profit of $475,778.11 after all charges, | including all taxes except undistrib- uted profits taxes, for the first quarter. It was the best first quarter in the company’s history.
