Other tically every Spring shade! Actually the President received all but eight—a figure which Farley hit upon in his own prediction. Keeps Attitude Impersonal. ‘The robust, heavy-jawed Finn ap- plied to politics the same impersonal attitude, fortified by myriad graphs and charts, which he learned in analyzing mines and oil properties in Texas and later on Wall Street. Once the 1932 election was won, he became Farley’s right-hand man, handling patronage affairs in the Re- construction Finance Corp. and later in the Interior Department and the Public Works Administration. Hurja went into the statistical busi- ness and thence into politics through newspaper work in Texas. His col- lection of 200 portraits of Andrew Jackson is his greatest pride. ATLAS TACK STOCK DEALS DESCRIBED Member of Stock Exchange Says |} He Was Advised to Cover Short Position. BY the Associated Press. A specialist in Atlas Tack Corp. stock told the Securities Commission today he covered his short position in | that security in 1935 upon the advice of associates in the Stock Exchange firm of W. E. Hutton & Co. Resuming its hearing on charges that the Hutton firm manipulated Tack stock, the commission called as its first witness Thomas Sloan Young, member of the New York Stock Ex- change since 1923, and one of several specialists in the stock. Young said activity in the issue was very dull from January 1 to November 1, 1935, but “unusual activity” ap- peared on November 15, the date on which the commission charges ma- nipulation of the stock began. He testi. fied he could not understand this ac- tivity, which caused a rise of 21% points during the day, and that he took a “short” position on 1,300 shares. | ; Later, he said, Carroll V. Geran, floor member of the Hutton firm, told him new interests had bought into the corporation and that prospects were good for increased business from the motor industry. Geran advised him Junior Redingotes, $16.95 to $45. Junior Deb Shop, Fourth Floor. to cover his short position, he said.
